About UsThe Domenico’s sandwich you enjoy today is 50 years in the making.
Italian born immigrant Letizia Sacco won a lottery drawing to immigrate to the U.S. in 1954. After moving to America, Letizia met Dominic "Domenico" Cucchiara through mutual friends and married shortly after. Dominic and Letizia worked several food service jobs until they opened P&G Italian Deli on Park Street in Alameda in 1966. They retired and sold P&G in 1979, however it wasn’t long until they put their aprons back on and returned from retirement. This time they opted for a deli in a new location on the West end of town. They opened Domenico’s Italian Deli on Webster Street in 1982 in the same location it stands today. Dominic and Letizia’s daughter Ann and her husband assumed ownership of Domenico's in 1989 when they decided to retire for the second and final time. Ann and her children have operated Domenico’s since. Dominic and Letizia hope their great grandchildren keep the business in “la famiglia” as 4th generation owners and provide Alameda with quality sandwiches for decades to come. |
